Confidentiality

The law protects the relationship between a client and a therapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

We appreciate 24 hour prior notification in order to accommodate each of our clients. Notice of cancellation of an appointment must be given 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. You will be billed a $50 fee for incidents of not showing or failure to cancel an appointment without 24 hours notice. Insurance does not cover this fee.

E-mail Communications

The convenience of contact via the internet can be a great time saver. Unfortunately, standard email communications do not meet the HIPAA requirements for protecting the privacy of client information. Illumine Counseling does not offer encrypted email communications. If you choose to contact Amy via email, you will be asked to confirm your consent to communications using this unsecured format.

Extensive contacts through email will be avoided to allow for clear and effective communications.
